    This is an informal gathering to celebrate diversity and inclusivity within AAAR at a nearby restaurant following the AAAR Welcome Reception. You can sign up for the event when registering for the conference. Come join us for a fun evening!

  • Fun Run (Wednesday October 16th, 6:30 am)

    Want to get some exercise before a busy day at the conference? The 4th annual AAAR 5k fun run/walk will be held on Wednesday, Oct 16 at 6:30 am. The 3.2 mi/5.2 km out-and-back course will start at the Quality Inn Downtown Convention Center and follow the Eastbank Esplanade along the Willamette River. If you don’t want to do the full course, turn around at any time. The run/walk is open to all conference participants and will not be timed. Sign up on the AAAR conference registration form.

  • Early Career Event (Wednesday October 16th, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm)
  • Fine Arts Competition (Submission deadline: September 16th)

    The second annual Particle Art Competition will take place again! To participate in the art competition, submit original pictures of your finest looking particles (sub-micrometer scale) or larger-scale pictures depicting aerosols or lab equipment. We are excited to announce that there will be an 91¿´Æ¬Íø Video Competition as well! To participate in the video competition, create a video that promotes aerosol science to a wider audience. The deadline is September 16, 2019. Monetary prizes will be awarded this year!

    Specific Details

    The 2019 AAAR will have both an art and video competition. This is your chance to showcase your creative side and help educate the world about aerosols!

    • Submit an entry of your most beautiful, interesting or artistic-looking particle(s) or other images of aerosols or research equipment. There are two submission categories – images at the sub-micrometer scale or larger scale.
    • Create an engaging and educational video to explain aerosol science to a wider audience. Submitted videos will be screened by the education committee and the top 5 entries will be featured at the conference.

    Art entries will be displayed near the posters and the top videos will be continually played on a monitor in the exhibit hall during the conference. A democratic vote will determine the winners of cash prizes.
    Art prizes for each category: First prize $500, Second prize $200, Third prize $100
    Video prize: First prize $500 (+up to $5000 to improve video), Second prize $200, Third prize $100

    To enter the art competition, electronically submit a high resolution image as a PDF file with a title, list of contributing artists and their affiliations, and brief explanation of your submission (~60 words maximum) at the following website:

    To participate, at least one of the artists is required to be a registered attendee at the conference. Note that you must bring a hard copy of your art to display in the exhibit hall.

    Submissions should be the original work of the author(s). Submission indicates permission for your picture or video to be displayed at the conference, on the AAAR website/conference website or related literature, including the Particulars e-Newsletter.
